This was taken around noontime in July 1999. We are at the end of a week-long cattle drive and a lone heifer was being returned to the herd.
We had about 22 dogs helping gather the cattle. Because they were finished, most dogs had been allowed to be let off their ties. When this heifer made her break, all the dogs ran to get her. They are about 13 dogs in this photo chasing one animal.
The cowboy in the photo is Ryan Kiely and the heifer was returned to the herd promptly. It is most unusual to allow that many dogs to be lose at once and that is why the photo was taken. The pond is called the frog pond for obvious reasons.
